SJHS News and Events

This year’s Eisteddfod drama competition represented a real challenge for Year 10 students: They were given the task of directing the Key Stage 3 students in the dramatization of a poem. Each house had a different poem to bring to life and they were assessed on three key areas that had previously been covered in the year 10’s lesson time. The areas that were to be covered were; use of space, use of chorus and physical theatre.

The amount of time dedicated and the imagination used by Year 10 students was particularly impressive and each house produced very high standards of performance. What was even more remarkable was the way that the students worked together to a common end goal irrespective of age.

This autumn also brought Sir James Henderson its senior production, Arthur Miller’s ‘The Crucible’. It took 3 and a half months’ worth of rehearsals and 27 very talented young people working incredibly hard to produce what was a highly professional performance. We managed to raise enough money to invest in the departments future performances.
