The National Eisteddfod of Wales can be traced back to 1176 when the first Eisteddfod was held in Cardigan, Wales. The Eisteddfod was a grand cultural gathering to which were invited poets and musicians from all over the country. A chair at the Lord’s table was awarded to the best poet and musician. Since that time many Eisteddfodau have been held and celebrated throughout Wales as an annual Welsh festival.

In the SJHS Eisteddfod students compete with each other both academically and through performance. The result is a final Eisteddfod Day in which the students compete in Music, Drama and Art. Every entry gains one point; the House which gains the most points wins the Eisteddfod and the cup!

While we can’t promise you a chair at the Lord’s table, the SJHS Eisteddfod presents you with an opportunity to share your own talents and perform in a festival devoted to Music, Poetry, Theatre and Art.
