Welcome to the Geography Department! Geography at Sir James is taught by four committed and enthusiastic geographers in a well resourced
department. The department offers a broad and relevant curriculum that deals with important contemporary
issues such as globalisation, the environment, population change, natural hazards and urbanisation.
These are studied at a range of scales from local to global.
The KS3 course is based on the UK National Curriculum and is resourced primarily by the Oxford Geography 123 programme. Both GCSE students follow the Edexcel A specification and these are supported by a range of resources. Fieldwork is an integral part of all key stages and students visit a range of locations including Piacenza in Year 9, the Isle of Elba in Year 10 and Holland at IB. AimsFacilities and ResourcesGeography lessons are taught in two specialist rooms. Both have video-projecting facilities, with the main room 211 also having an interactive whiteboard. The department is well equipped with a range of audio-visual resources including videos and DVDs. Both staff and students prepare presentations for classes. Room 211 has its own geographical library with a range of books for all levels, but with an emphasis on texts for IB. The department subscribes to Geography Review, Geo Active and Geo File, which provide up to date information for GCSE and IB groups. There is also a good range of fieldwork and weather measuring equipment.
