This is an exciting time for ICT at Sir James. There are many changes happening; a new
website, computer facilities, schemes of work, there are closer links to industry software
as well as having numerous cross-curricular links. The new ICT club specialises in modern
computer problems.
The new Learning Resource Centre and its 6th form study area each have a bank of brand new high spec computers which have the latest software. Students at Key Stage 3 have 2 periods allocated to ICT where they follow the UK National Curriculum. This is in-accordance to the National Strategy and pupils are measured against the NC levels 4 to 7 (National Curriculum). GCSE students (Key Stage 4) have 4 periods allocated to cover the EDEXEL syllabus. This is 60% coursework and 40% exam; year 10 is dedicated to coursework and year 11 exam preparation and theory. After-school clubs; there are currently classes for ICT KS4 exam theory twice a week, website design, Internet Security and PC hardware. The clubs are designed around open ended tasks and as a result students are capable of producing outstanding work. ICT has many applications within all subjects studied at Sir James. Students are guided towards these to gain a real-world perspective IT. Where possible the industry standard software packages are used.
