Danilo Manto
Piano
Danilo Manto gained his first diploma in piano performance at the Conservatoire “F. Morlacchi” of Perugia studying under the great pianist Antonio Bacchelli, and continued his studies with Daniel Rivera (a former student of Maria Tipo) and Orazio Frugoni. More recently, as a concert performer, he was awarded the LRSM diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music of London.
He has performed both as a soloist and in duos and chamber groups in Italy, Europe and South America. In 1997, together with the American pianist Elizabeth Sadun, he recorded - in double CD - the complete compositions for piano duet of G.Donizetti for MusikStrasse/Agorà: the first ever produced worldwide. He has recorded works by Chopin and Beethoven for the “Radio National de Venezuela” and “Radio Vaticana”. His repertoire, both as soloist and chamber musician, includes all the main periods from Bach to the modern era though he prefers the Italian keyboard composers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Danilo Manto has also composed music for theatre, documentaries, music for young musicians (“Gli animali Felici”- Carish) and collaborated with some of the most famous choreographers and dancers; E.Poljakov, S.Carlton Jones, D.Carey and Martha Graham American Ballet Company.
In more than 25 years of intensive teaching experience he has developed a unique approach to piano teaching, combining the rigor of the Italian conservatoire system with the flexibility of the British one. This has enabled his more able students to progress extremely rapidly yet with secure technical grounding. Given his well-documented experience with the British system and following the outstanding results of his many students, in July 2007 he was appointed by the directors of the ABRSM in London as their “Northern Italy Development Coordinator” . In this capacity he is collaborating with the major music schools and conservatoires of North Italy and explaining the benefits of the ABRSM system. He is the founder-teacher of the “Summer Piano Course” at Monguelfo (Bolzano - Italy) now in its fourth year. He has been teaching at SJHS since 2000.
