The two years of the Sixth Form are the most challenging and exciting time of a student’s career. It is a crucial stage to get right. The experiences gained in these years represent the launch pad for young men and women on the point of entering the world of higher education and employment. We hope that the personal qualities that will be nurtured in the Sixth Form will prepare our students thoroughly for this momentous change. These qualities - which embrace the IB Learner profile - include:
  • Academic motivation
  • Intellectual curiosity and creativity
  • Independent thinking
  • Personal initiative, self-confidence and self-discipline
  • Tolerance for others and the ability to solve conflict constructively
  • Cultural sensitivity
Our students will benefit from a high degree of individual attention and a careful system of monitoring. With constant academic and pastoral support, our students will be encouraged to take a mature responsibility for their own learning.

SJHS began the delivery of the IB Diploma Programme in September 2008 and in our position as an 'IB World school' SJHS is committed, to continuing to develop our already impressive infrastructure to ensure that students' needs are met to the highest standards possible. For a high achieving school such as SJHS, the IB Diploma Programme represents a logical progression in development, reflecting the growing desire among Europe's leading schools, to embrace the world's premier pre-university academic programme.

The central belief of the Sixth Form at Sir James Henderson is that all our students should develop their characters and capabilities to their fullest potential. To be successful in the Sixth Form is not just a matter of getting top grades. It is also extremely important that all our students get involved in the wider life of our School. Sixth Form students will have more freedom to organise their academic and social time. They have the use of the Study Centre, which includes 16 computers for their use. They convene the Sixth Form Council independently and run the Prefect and Student Council system.

More freedom brings with it added responsibility. The Sixth Form plays a central part in the life of the School. As senior members of the school community, the Sixth Formers will be highly visible role models for the whole student body.

The following pages present the academic and pastoral programme of the Sixth Form. If after reading this document you have further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at School.
